Ferris Wheel Press | choking on shimmers

Hi everyone and here is another (yes, another) Ferris Wheel Press review serves right up! I have with me today the 2 latest releases - Hampton Harbour Sage and Song of Scarlet.

Hampton Harbour Sage

At first glance, the box has already shown me that this is not going to be your typical everyday writing ink. There is a plain shade of green, not too green but it does give you that calming vibe. It’s a bit on the lighter shade of green but I don’t know it kind of reminds me of the green tones that was in Ghibli movies from the 80s. What do you think? Accompanying that with silvery shimmers, it completes the look of real sage leaves that has a layer of white-ish on top of the green. A great looking color with on theme box design! The ink itself performs well with all sorts of nib sizes, but I’d say this is better used as a wash or a drawing color at best due to it not having too much depth of color, and you really need a lot of it to bring out the green within.

Song of Scarlet

For this one you have the fantasy settings of German houses that were shown in fairy tale illustrations, and it was definitely some sort of foreshadowy mentioning of the real town of Hamelin, Germany if you know you know. The Pied Piper was not a pretty story by any means if you looked into it in depth, but through the cutesy drawings and references this box design definitely makes it look a whole lot friendlier. The ink itself is a really interesting combination of red tone, yellow sheen and blue shimmer. Separated, the three different components look as if Salvador Dali made another hit of whatever he had before and mixed something up for the sake of it, but in a good way. Combined together, the ink creates a rich deep red line, almost burgundy with some fine nibs, and the sheen plus shimmer do not overwhelm the main red tone, and that’s what you need for an everyday writing ink. I like it a lot, not to the point of replacing my blacks with it but I’ll use it quite often.
