FWP Joule Fountain Pen Luna Celeste

The Ferris Wheel Press Joule Fountain Pen in Luna Celeste is the kind of writing instrument that follows a very specific aesthetic theme. This is not just a pen; it’s an invitation to get yourself into the magical and whimsical world of Ferris Wheel Press.

Disclaimer: This pen is provided to me free of charge from FWP and I also have an affiliate relationship with FWP through my personal discount code JA-AWRITINGGUY but I’ll stay as objective as possible in this review since this pen also has a few design flaws that I’d get into in a bit.

First Impressions:

Out of the box, the Luna Celeste blue lacquer finish catches the light like moonlight on water. It’s deeply reflective, with a subtle gradient that shifts between sapphire and twilight hues. Ferris Wheel Press has a knack for design that feels unintrusive yet unapologetically modern. The pen’s cylindrical brass barrel and round grip offer an interplay of sharp geometry and soft tactility—a thoughtful contrast that feels purposeful rather than ornamental.

In the hand, the pen has a satisfying weight. It sits confidently between the fingers without feeling cumbersome, offering just enough heft to remind you of its quality without overwhelming the experience of writing. The smooth brass accents and engraved Ferris Wheel Press insignia feel like a quiet nod to craftsmanship, an echo of the brand’s stationery roots. The section has really neat designs engraved onto it to double as grip points to prevent your finger tips from slipping away at the glossy brass finish. The barrel doesn’t allow it to be posted while writing but it is a hefty pen already so that wouldn’t be necessary. It does come with a pen sleeve and a converter so that’s also a plus in my book. The sleeve fits the pen snuggly and also double as a roll stopper as this particular Joule model does not have any facets unlike their other Bijou Fountain Pen with a hexagonal capband.

Writing Performance:

Of course, a pen is only as good as the line it leaves behind. The Joule Fountain Pen delivers a consistent, fluid stroke, but after a half an hour of tweaking. I tested the fine nib, which is stainless steel Bock nib unit with added design touches. Recent batches of Bock nibs have been on the drier side with their limited feed channel design so it was inevitable that I had to get in there with all 5 inky fingers!

Disassembling was easy enough as it is a screw-in nib unit with the nib and feed friction fit into the housing. After a bit of opening of the tines and gouging of the feed it is as smooth and juicy as a fine nib should be in my preference.

The nib design by itself does have its limits. It’s not the flexiest option on the market as the tine slit is shorter as of any Bock nib, so calligraphy enthusiasts or those seeking dramatic line variation may feel constrained. For journaling, letter writing, or sketching ideas, though, this pen is surely a daily carry workhorse with its consistent inkflow and durable lacquering.

Who Is This Pen For?

The Joule Fountain Pen in Luna Celeste isn’t for the writer who tosses their pen into a bag without a second thought. It’s for the person who believes that the tools of their craft matter. Whether you’re drafting your next big idea, journaling under candlelight, or simply indulging in the act of writing itself, this pen adds a layer of ceremony to the mundane.

Ferris Wheel Press has once again blurred the line between tool and art. The Luna Celeste isn’t just about function or beauty—it’s about the interplay between them. It’s a pen that makes you want to write, and what more could you ask for?
