Christmas’ not-so-christmasy colors | Ferris Wheel Press’ Winter Releases
When it comes to the biggest holiday season of the year, red and green seem to be the dominating color scheme that’s proven to be timeless in terms of representing the gift-giving spirit. However, I would like to take a good few minutes of your time to recommend to you what I think are the 3 most underrated colors of the season - turquoise blue, navy blue, and yellow gold - the three that are still popular among Christmas colors, but not as prevalent as the formerly mentioned red and green.

Crystal Blue Legacy
The combination of navy blue and gold has been a majestic one and has been in used for the past few decades. It has that regal vibe to that and while it’s not the most commonly used color for writing, the blue tone in Crystal Blue Legacy has that depth and richness that I would want in a writing ink, thus this one gets a plus in my book. Beneath that deep blue, there are light blue shimmers to add the final touches to it, making this one a vibrant yet intense dark blue for your daily writing needs.
Frontenac Blue
Another “Tiffany Blue” joins the chat. From the watch industry to the latest special release of that-one-pen-brand-we-all-know-of, the light turquoise blue that was made popular by the jewelry giant Tiffany and Co. has created a new trend of products going after the hype. Frontenac Blue at first glance might seem to be one that goes after it as well, yet to my eyes in real life it’s more of a “glacier blue” that you often see in ski resort ads, and that’s exactly what FWP was going after with this release. A bright and not so saturated turquoise to make the shimmer pops on the page. This one will work wonderfully as a base for your calligraphy adventure, I can see lots of ig posts coming with this one being the background, making the quotes or words from talented calligraphers around the world pop, with that touch of shimmer to round everything off nicely.
Plaited Gold Tress
You guys know how I feel about yellow as a writing ink, and Plaited Gold Tress has yet again going into the same category of calligraphy / coloring ink in my book. As a color by itself, the yellow gold tone shines brightly and gloriously on the page in larger pools, and since it’s already a diluted color by itself, there is not so much you can do to make it legible in finer nibs. This one will shine more with broader and juicier nibs from Viscontis or Pelikans. It does bring out the bauble-vibe of Christmas, or as the name suggested, the shiny gold strands of braided hair of Rapunzel, accompanied by bits of gold shimmers, making it the perfect color for that final touch of your Christmas cards for your loved ones.
That sums up my thoughts and feelings about the most recent releases from Ferris Wheel Press this holiday season of 2023. What do you guys think of these colors, and let me know if you’re planning to get a few of them using my code WRITINGGUY at check out ;)
